Alder buckthorn
Description: Alder buckthorn bark contains anthraquinones (notably frangulin and emodin) that promote intestinal transit by stimulating peristalsis and increasing water secretion in the intestine. It is traditionally used as a gentle laxative for temporary constipation.
Taste: Slightly bitter and earthy.
History: Used since the Middle Ages in Europe, alder buckthorn was considered a natural remedy for constipation and sometimes incorporated into traditional medicinal preparations.
Instructions: Infuse 1 teaspoon of dried bark in 250 ml of hot water for 5 minutes, then strain.
